January 2007, North Carolina implemented a cardless licensure system. All licenses, as well as nurse aide II listings, issued on and after January 1, 2007 are electronic. Employers and the public can access licensure information directly from the NC Board of Nursing database, which is the primary source for nurse licensure information. The database can be accessed via telephone at 919-881-2272 or on our website by clicking the Verify License link.
EFFECTIVE JULY 1, 2011 The North Carolina Board of Nursing will no longer accept paper applications for renewal or reinstatement of RN and LPN licenses. To Renew Online CLICK HERE |
| Effective August 1, 2010 anyone who has not held an active North Carolina license for 6 months or more will be required to have a criminal background check prior to reinstatement. |
